There are more than 4,000 companies globally that use Sitecore CMS or Sitecore Experience Platform. Sitecore released its latest version or the Sitecore XP 8.2 in 2016. This followed on the heels of the release of version 8.1 in mid-2015 and prior to that of the release of version 8.0 in December 2014. Many of these existing Sitecore customers are still using versions as old as 6.1, 6.3 or 6.4. Most of these companies would love to migrate to the latest version and leverage the immense marketing capability and feature-set that 8.2 offers. So why are all of them not upgrading to 8.2?
A Sitecore version upgrade is not a single-step process. It’s a set of steps that you need to perform and in some cases you may need to replicate the steps multiple times. This is specifically true if your current version did not match the pre-requisites of your target version. Further, if you have multiple sites built on Sitecore, you may have to repeat the entire process on every site.
Do marketers or web/IT teams have the kind of time, budget and inclination that this process demands? Sometimes they do, most other times they do not.
The challenges that Sitecore upgrades present to customers drove edynamic’s Sitecore CoE to build what we call as the Auto vUpgrader for Sitecore©. Led by our Sitecore MVPs, we built out a tool that not only simplifies the upgrade cycle but speeds up the process too.
